Education: The Great Human Factory

Dedicated to all the real heroes,

My definition of real heroes is they are really true rebels. Three qualities of a true rebel are they have a heart made of gold, they are always making them stronger and they have a vision in their life. We have two such heroes in our Love Books team, namely Yabesh and Vibhuti.

Let’s start with Vibhuti, not only she is an academic hero but also a real-life hero and a true rebel. But my question what’s about Yabesh? He is a real-life hero and a true rebel and you can take my word for it. Schools have also admired Vibhuti for its academic excellence but forget about praising, Yabesh have always been tortured by teachers or I must say fake teachers, or in the words of Yabesh,

We are a part of a system

Where knowledge is not a preference

And jobs are based on reference,

Where students are insulted in public

For not paying the fees on time

As if being poor is a crime,

We go to schools

Where pointing out a mistake

Is an illegal act,

Hey you? wake up, dude.

These institutes are playing with our mental health

Sending warning letters

But not being able to do anything better,

I hope things change real soon in future

When students are actually sent for seeking education

Without any hesitation.

It’s suffocating, isn’t it?

Schools- Temple of School or A big Scoreboard

Scores are all we’re after, even though they don’t determine our worth.

We really couldn’t judge people from their grades since not all of us excel in the same thing.

Why don’t we get taught how to treat injuries or other basic life skills instead? Do we really need to know about mitochondria being the powerhouse of the cell, really, give me a break

Without knowing how to answer for interviews or pay our taxes? Ma’am, will we use the periodic table or those complex math problems in our everyday lives?

It’s of no use, we’ll forget everything once the exams are over.

The School works like a factory. We are shaped into what they think is the minimum standard, not giving us any room for creativity. Not to mention how mentally draining it is, to have so much unnecessary homework. It sucks, and above all, it does not prepare for the real world.

All of us know:

•Pythagoras Theorem

•Shakespeare’s literature

•The Periodic Table

•Newton’s Laws of Motion

But what we all don’t know is:

• How to set & achieve goals

• How to confidently say ‘no.’⁣

• We don’t know anything about sex or drugs, except that ‘they’re bad.’⁣

• ⁣We know nothing about passion, dreams, or Life.

IT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

So if things are not don’t good enough why don’t they change it? I don’t know , I believe they have accepting things as it is without considering any scope of improvement. But we all need to do something.

WE NEED TO FILL THE GAPS!

Our education system is geared towards teaching and testing knowledge at every level as opposed to teaching skills. “Give a man a fish and you feed him one day, teach him how to catch fishes and you feed him for a lifetime.”

I believe that if you teach a man a skill, you enable him for a lifetime. Knowledge is largely forgotten after the semester exam is over. Still, year after year students focuses on cramming information.

The best crammers are rewarded by the system. This is one of the fundamental flaws of our education system.

I have seen so many brilliant students who are deserving but not good at cramming. They suffer through the pain and anxiety of not being able to qualify for an exam.

An Exam, which is supposed to examine their knowledge and validate their worth but the truth is that it’s just not functioning the way it is expected to. Millions of students feel helpless and embarrassed. They don’t even share their thoughts with their close ones. I can say this because this is what stats show and I personally have experienced this. I hope that we change this someday for the better.

Richard Feynman once said, “we don’t learn much by naming things”. And this is really true.

Because knowing what a thing is it’s different from knowing what a thing does… and both can be mutually exclusive… So, what does it mean to name a thing and not knowing how it works? It means exactly that — that we know a lot of names and we know very little about things. And, unfortunately, that’s the path our education systems are following. We’re creating know-names and not know-hows. We’re creating encyclopedias and not engineers.

Do you know, what I wish?

I wish for a school where children are inspired to be creative, critical thinkers. To search for innovative solutions to problems, seeing the complexity of systems. Where we don’t merely teach Science but design hands-on learning opportunities for children to discover it for themselves. We want our children to get out of the classroom, be curious, ask questions..and learn how and where to find the answers. And, most importantly, to create a sense of wonder and have fun along the way.

I would really want my kids to go to school happy, relaxed, ready to learn, to respect each other, to see consciously what happens inside of them. I don’t really care if they’ll memorize perfectly the text but I’ll always be supportive to push them to follow their dreams.

I believe we all come on this planet with a personal talent, with a specific passion. Too many people knock you down. I don’t want to be one of them.

A hope

You know till 9th, though not a topper, I was pretty well in studies. Then after my academics start to fell dramatically. All of my life I was sold the belief, get good grades, then get a good job and your life is set. But now with my broken academics where I would go, I thought. Actually, only my academics did not break, it was actually me breaking itself.

You know what they say, when one door gets closed another door opens.

Academics to Hustle

And the best part, this door does not differentiate you on the basis of academics. The name of the door is Business. For me, business is not about money but about living your dreams. And this dream could be dancing, sports or anything you feel your passion is. You can use business in combination with your dream as a vehicle to come out of that big human’s factory called Education.

I am not asking here you to start your own business but what I am suggesting to you is to find your door. And then open that door and explore it to the fullest.

This is the best way to get away with the torture which schools are put through in school. And live your life like a human should live. Unlike school where you are trained to live your life like robots.
